Age structures

The age range in our area runs from newborn, less than a day old in the case of Mary Alexander, to 77, a widow born in Cornwall, living with her son-in-law and daughter, and a servant, in Hatfield Road. There is very little difference in age patterns between men and women, but there are differences in the age distribution of our area, the Acton Urban District as a whole, and England and Wales.

It is interesting to see that there are far fewer people between 10 and 24 and then a dramatic rise in those in their late twenties and early thirties, perhaps to be expected in an area of new housing, where young families are moving in. The distribution then drops sharply back to the Acton and England and Wales pattern and then drops slightly below it for those aged 50 to 65.

Just over a quarter of the population were under 14 - the school leaving age - and were fairly evenly distributed between the four roads, highest in Hatfield Road, lowest in Southfield Road.
